Cantor Evan’s Visit to Our Sister Congregation Temple Beth Am in Miami, Florida

From December 12-17, 2018, Cantor Evan visited our sister congregation Temple Beth Am in Miami, Florida, at the invitation of its senior rabbi, Rabbi Jeremy Barras.

The goal of the visit to Temple Beth Am was to deepen the connection between our two congregations, and in honor of Har-El’s 60th anniversary in 2018, to recruit 60 new overseas members among the members of Temple Beth Am (“60 for 60”).

The Events Included:

Meetings with the students of the Temple Beth Am Day School.  Pictured: Cantor Evan with the 4th grade students.  For additional pictures, please click here.

Participating in Kabbalat Shabbat services as guest cantor and speaker.  Please click here to listen to Cantor Evan’s sermon, and please click here for additional pictures.

A dessert reception for potential donors following Kabbalat Shabbat services, held at the home of Rabbi Jeremy Barras.  Many thanks to Jodi Barras, Rabbi Barras’ wife, for opening their home for the event.

Sunday morning: delivering a presentation at the “Sunday Salon” of Temple Beth Am on “Successes and Challenges of Kehilat Har-El and the Israeli Reform Movement”.

Summary of the Visit:

As of today, we have almost 30 new overseas members from Temple Beth Am, among them the whole clergy team of Beth Am (Beth Am’s four rabbis and its cantor).  Welcome to all of our new overseas members and thank you so much!

Thanks:

The campaign to recruit new overseas members is still ongoing, with the assistance of the volunteers and staff of Temple Beth Am, and many thanks to new overseas member Joe Jacoby from the Israel Committee of Beth Am and to Andrea LeVine, Beth Am’s program director, for all of their work on the campaign for the benefit of Kehilat Har-El.

Special thanks go out to new overseas members Sharon & Howard Socol who so warmly opened their home to Cantor Evan and graciously hosted him for five nights during his visit.  Pictured: Cantor Evan with Sharon & Howard Socol

And finally, heartfelt thanks to Beth Am’s senior rabbi, Rabbi Jeremy Barras, a loyal and dear friend of Har-El for many years, for his deep involvement and boundless assistance in making this campaign a success.

On the first day of his visit to Florida, Cantor Evan visited Bella & Rabbi Dick Hirsch, long-time members of Har-El who are residing in a retirement home in Boca Raton (about an hour and a half drive from Miami).  Bella and Dick send their warmest regards to all of the members of Har-El.
